Simply, DNS is a directory of names that match with numbers. The numbers are IP addresses that computers use to communicate with each other. However, since the internet has become commercialized, there’s been an effort to move from DNS and customer networks toward Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and later Cisco, Google, IBM, and Cloudflare.
