Erin Murphy is a professor of law at New York University Law School and EPIC Advisor. Her research focuses on technology and forensic evidence in the criminal justice system, and she is a nationally recognized expert in forensic DNA typing.
Last year, Prof. Murphy hosted a panel discussion with authors Radley Balko and Tucker Carrington, as well as Brooklyn Law School Professor Bennett Capers on junk science, wrongful convictions and race. The panelists delve into the historical inequalities of the justice system that begin at crime scenes and end with imprisonment. They examine how for decades state law enforcement officers positioned key players at crime scenes in order to prevent real investigations of minority victims or use evidence to target minority suspects.
Surprisingly, many of these issues are still compounded by some judges, who are unwilling to analyze and set limits on expert witness testimony. Click here to see the full panel discussion.
